ARTH 23500. GLOBAL RENAISSANCE ART The art of the early modern period (1450-1600), focusing on relations between Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. This course considers how the global mobility of images, institutions, and ideas shaped the international landscape of the pre-modern world. Themes include: immigration, commerce, religion, and science, as well as definitions of center/periphery, native/foreign, and self/other. in addition to traditional media like painting, sculpture, and architecture, we will also examine ceramics, gemstones, textiles, and maps.
